Classes
Watermelon Dance Studio offers the following dance classes:
Strictly Beginners Ballroom and Latin
The Ballroom and Latin classes are a great way to get you moving on the dance floor with confidence! It is also a fun way to get some exercise, escape the stress of everyday life and make new friends.
The dancing we do is purely social and there are no exams or competitions involved. It is great for absolute beginners and especially those who say they have 'two left feet'. I promise you I will do my very best to find your right one for you! It is also good for those who can get around the dance floor a little already, but just want a little more variety to your steps and dances.
The dances we cover are: Social Foxtrot, Waltz, Tango, Cha Cha, Samba, Rumba, Mambo, Merengue, Jive, West Coast Swing.
The classes are not run as a course, they are on going and you are welcome to come along and join in at any time.
You do not have to have a partner to attend, however it does make life easier if you do have one! But please don't let this put you off coming, as there are always a number of other people there without partners too.
If you have been wanting to learn to dance, but just never got around to it, now is the time! You'll be so glad you did and won't believe the fun you are going to have while doing it!

Adult Tap Time
Tap is a great way to get in shape while having loads of fun! It is not only a work out for the body but also for the mind and is a really great way to de-stress.
The work is I.S.T.D (Imperial Society of Teachers of Dance) based but has lots of free work as well. The class consists of a warm-up followed by a range of different exercises to improve technique, musicality, style and confidence! At the end of the lesson we do a fun routine that is added on to as the weeks go by. This is great for performance skills and even better to test the memory!!
Tap is a great form of dance for people of all ages. It gets the joints moving and the blood flowing while having fun and enjoying some great music!
It doesn't matter if you have never danced before, it's never too late to start, so what are you waiting for, why not give it a try!
At: Kenilworth Youth and Community Centre
On: Monday 10:00am-11:00am & Wednesday 7:10pm-8:00pm
Costing: £4.50 per class
Please note: It is not necessary to have tap shoes to begin with. Once you have come along to a class to try it out and decide you like it (which you will!) you can then buy yourself a pair of shoes.
Dance Fit (Adult Jazz)
Dance Fit is a fun exercise class based on a range of different dance techniques. These include Ballet, Modern, Jazz and Contemporary, however no previous dance experience is necessary. It is a great way to get in shape, get the body moving, the blood flowing and to just switch off from everyday life while having fun and enjoying the music!
The class starts off with a whole body warm-up, followed by some easy ballet based exercises to strengthen and tone the whole body, while working on our balance and posture. We then move on to do some stretching, which elongates the muscles and increases flexibility. Next is some isolation work, learning to move individual parts of your body while holding the rest of it still! To finish off with, each week we build on to a routine so we can really let go, have fun and enjoy the music! It is also a great way to test the memory!
This class will suit you whether you are a professional, an absolute beginner or someone who used to do a little dancing in your younger days. Everyone can work to their own ability and push their bodies as much or as little as they feel comfortable with. We do some floor work during the class, so feel free to bring a floor mat, however this is not a necessity.
Please make sure you wear something that is comfortable and easy to move around in (track suit bottoms and a t-shirt for example). Trainers may be worn, however they are sometimes a little heavy to work in, so you may prefer socks or bare feet. If you have danced before and have ballet or jazz shoes they will be perfect.
Remember it is never too late to discover the joys of dance, so come along and give it a try, you'll be glad you did!
