About Lotty (your instructor!)

Lotty Cross - the early years!I have danced for my whole life and can't imagine myself doing anything else! I was about 8 when I started and, like most kids, I did ballet, tap and modern. I fell in love with it immediately and, even at that young age, knew this was what I wanted to do with my life!

At 16 I went away to a full time dance college where I studied all forms of dance and took all my I.S.T.D teaching qualifications. When I finished at 19 I went off into the big wide world to work as a professional dancer! I had the time of my life working in countries such as Japan, Portugal, Korea, Tunisia, South Africa and on numerous passenger cruise liners.

Lotty Cross - in costume! After around 12 amazing years of performing on stage I moved over to the teaching side of things and have loved every minute of it! I really enjoy giving other people the chance to find out how exciting and invigorating dance can be, how free it can make you feel and how it really does make you smile from the inside out!!

Why the name 'Watermelon Dance Studio'?

Watermelons! Why not? The main reason for 'Watermelon' is due to my favourite (very cheesy) childhood movie Dirty Dancing. There is a very famous and funny quote where the main character 'Baby' says the line "I carried a watermelon". It has become something of a phenomenon, along with other such quotes as "Nobody puts Baby in a corner" and "Butt out Baby".

So, there you go...now you know why it is Watermelon Dance Studio!!!!
